Who are Story Walks for?

Story Walks are for toddlers, preschoolers, and the grown-ups who love them: parents, grandparents, carers, and childminders. Most walks are buggy friendly to help with tired legs. No experience needed, just a willingness to wander, wonder, and sing along!

What happens on a Story Walk?

Each session follows a gentle rhythm that helps children feel safe and engaged from start to finish.

1

Welcome Song

We gather together and sing our hello song, a familiar start that helps little ones feel settled and ready for adventure.

2

A Walk with Activities

Off we go! Along the way we stop for sensory activities, nature crafts, and gentle exploration. We collect leaves, listen to birdsong, and spot minibeasts.

3

Story, Songs & Snack

We find a lovely spot to sit together for a story and songs. Bring along a snack and drink for your little one to enjoy while they listen. Heather provides biscuits each week.

4

Mindful Moments

A quiet pause to notice the world around us. We feel the breeze, watch the clouds, and listen to the trees. Small moments of calm for little (and big) people.

5

More Adventure

We continue our story walk with more songs, games and activities back towards our starting point.

6

Closing Song

We finish with our goodbye song, a lovely way to round off the session and wave farewell until next time.

Story walks will take place in most weathers, even with the rain. There is lots of fun to have splashing in muddy puddles. Heather has wet weather gear you can borrow if you need it.

Why Story Walks?

Every Story Walk is an hour of connection, discovery, and joy.

Confidence & Independence

Exploring outdoors in a small, supportive group helps children build confidence at their own pace.

Language & Communication

Songs, stories, and conversation along the way naturally support speech and language development.

Music

Singing, songs and rhymes with children helps develop bonds and emotional connections. Music fires all the connections between all areas of the brain.

Physical & Motor Skills

Walking, balancing, climbing, and collecting develop gross and fine motor skills through play. Physical exploration strengthens muscles and helps them discover how to control their bodies.

Bonding & Connection

A special time for grown-ups and little ones to share experiences and connect away from the bustle of daily life.

Wellbeing for Everyone

Fresh air, gentle movement, and a friendly group. It’s good for the soul, for children and adults alike.
