Hello, I’m Heather.
I’m a primary school teacher of 25 years, and I created Story Walks to bring together some of my greatest passions: working with young children, spending time outdoors, singing, teaching music and reading stories.

I live in Bashley with my two children and our dog Rocky, so the New Forest is our playground. After 25 years in the classroom, I wanted to find a way to keep doing what I love: helping little ones grow in confidence, language, and curiosity, but out in the fresh air, surrounded by nature.
Story Walks grew from there. Each session is a blend of everything I’ve learned as a teacher and a mum: the power of a good story, the joy of singing together, and the magic that happens when children are free to explore outside.
I’m paediatric first aid trained and DBS checked, and each walk is risk assessed, so you can feel completely at ease knowing your little ones are in safe hands.

What I believe in
These ideas guide everything I do on our Story Walks.
Nature Connection
I believe children thrive when they have space to explore the natural world. Mud, leaves, puddles, and birdsong are some of the best learning resources there are.
Singing Together
Songs are woven through every session. Singing builds language, rhythm, and memory, and it’s a wonderful way to feel part of a group, even for the littlest ones.
Sensory Exploration
Touching bark, smelling wildflowers, listening to streams. Our walks are full of rich sensory experiences that support development and spark curiosity.
Curiosity & Wonder
Children are full of wonderful questions about the world around them, I encourage their curiosity. I love to help them learn more through open-ended questions.
Mindful Moments
Even very young children can benefit from small pauses to notice the world around them. We take gentle moments to feel the breeze, watch the clouds, and just be still together.
New Places
Exploring the beautiful places we live near, finding new and wonderful walks and mini adventures has been one of my favourite things to do with my children, I want to help other families do this too.
I’d love to meet you
